Charles was from Lapeer County, Michigan and enlisted at age 19 on August 6, 1861 at Lapeer, Michigan. He was mustered into Federal Service on August 22, 1861. He died on July 25, 1863 from wounds received on July 3, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. He is buried at the National Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in the Michigan Plot, Grave F- #2.
