From Niles, Michigan Lyman enlisted December 4, 1861 for 3 years of service at the age of 20. He took the Muster Oath on January 8, 1862. He was promoted to Corporal before he was discharged at DeVall's Bluff, Arkansas on January 7, 1865.His descendant also he originally enlisted in the Michigan Lancer's. His name does not appear on the roll of the Lancer's though.
