Michael was from Lansing, Michigan, enlisting on August 8, 1862 at Detroit, Michigan for 3 years os service at the age of 20. He reached the Regiment at Upton Hill, Virginia on September 8, 1862. He was transferred to Company F, 5th Michigan Infantry on July 10, 1864. He was discharged at Washington, District of Columbia on May 31,1865. He is buries in Mt Hope Cemetery at Lansing, Michigan
