This monument is located in the Franklin, Cemetery 1 block North of M-50 on Tipton Highway in Tipton, Michigan.
The names of thirty-three men from Franklin Township who lost their lives in the Civil War are inscribed on the sides of the monument.

" The first Michigan monument to Civil War Veterans "

A plaque on the base reads:

"Union and liberty, one and inseparable, now and forever."

" Erected July 4, 1866, by the citizens of Franklin as a memorial of the brave and patriotic men who represented them in battle, and gave their lives in defense of the unity of our common country. Preserve the union of the states, cemented by our prayers, our tears, and our blood."
